So we finally made the decision to do something in the kitchen. And by “we,” I mean I. Poor Ryan was only along for the ride. He’s such a sport.
I’m sure you remember ALL of my past tutorials. Especially the ones where I posted DIY clock tutorials. I’ll refresh your memory - here, here and here. I even went so far as to purchase a little clock-making kit. You know, the kind with the hands and “motor” (is that what it’s called?). I made some of the hexagons for one of them and painted the hands, but I just could not get jazzed about it. It didn’t look right. And then I looked around the tiny apartment and realized that there are pretty much clocks everywhere. Why do I need another clock? But the space above the window was so sad. It was just painted white and was WAITING for something to be done. It looked a little neglected. Well…no more.
In the words of Champ “WHAMMY!” It’s the same color paint we used on the inside of the cabinets. Then I got my Silhouette Cameo out and made some sweet mod graphics which Ryan nicely applied. I love it. And I ALSO made new curtains for the window. Just plain white, so it’s not that big of a deal. Oh, and notice how relatively clean the kitchen is. Things that happen when people come to stay at my house. Stuff gets DONE.
Next up - new light fixtures. That’s right. Ryan finally gave me the green light to sell our existing craftsman light fixtures that were in the apartment when I moved in and buy new ones. YAHOO!

It looks great! Very impressive.
Super Cute. I love the color!
Ok, so I’ve heard of apartments letting you paint before, but replacing light fixtures (without putting them back before you leave) is new to me. And if they’re ok with improvements, I would love to see the color inside the cabinets through some glass panels on those two cabinets that surround the window. Love it!
Well…our landlord is super old and probably doesn’t remember this specialty light/fan combo. I’m ASSuming that if we get new ones, we’ll be able to just let it slide. Plus he loves us. I think only because we pay our rent on time and never complain about anything. LOL. Although, I’m pretty sure we’ll have to replace all the verticle blinds if we ever move out. I couldn’t take those things and had to remove them. Had. To. As far as the cabinets go, I would also love some of the cupboads to be glass, but I’m a little nervous about the whole earthquake issue.
