About Lizzie

WelcomeMy name is Lizzie Lewis, I live in Santa Monica, CA and I’m one of those people who loves all things DIY. (Does that sound like an introduction from The Dating Game?).  I almost feel embarrassed saying that because it seems to have an air of the pathetic.  Whatever.  YOU GUYS are pathetic!

ANYWAY, my “crafting” (I totally hate that word, by the way) has almost become an obsession at this point.  I feel completely lost if I don’t have a project in the works at all times.  My favorites are the ones where I’m inexpensively reproducing something SUPER expensive.  HA!  Suck it Anthropologie!  (Actually don’t suck it, Anthropologie, as I totally love you). I don’t need to spend $25 on an embroidered kitchen towel as I can make one for a PENNY!  Or a couple of bucks.  I’ll be realistic.

This blog came to life after I threw my first party.  It was the first “real” party I’d ever planned and I was flying a bit by the seat of my pants. Let’s just say that it was a learning experience (read: it basically sucked). But I realized that throwing a party is 1) crazy expensive and b) can be made much cheaper by doing a lot of things yourself.  I mean, we can’t all have Hollywood parties with tents as big as a city block, ice sculptures and working fireplaces. (Side note – I’ve actually been to a party that had all those things. AND, not to name drop (too late), but Paris Hilton was there. And Alyssa Milano, who I “allegedly” drunkenly told how beautiful I thought she was. She really is, though.) But just because we have a shoestring budget, doesn’t mean our parties have to be stupid and boring.  Don’t be such a Debbie Downer.

So this blog is a little slice of my life.  And my DIY projects.  And the few parties I’ve planned and will hopefully be planning in the future.

Random question-the LA area is my FAVORITE place to go on vacation. People frequently find that odd, I have no idea why. One of the places we make sure to hit when we’re there is actually the Santa Monica Farmers Market. There’s this dude who sells potpourri, he puts it in these white muslin bags, it’s kind of “oily”, he’s African American, kind of a big dude, may have dreads if I remember correctly. Do you happen to know who/what I’m talking about? I’m trying to figure out if he has a website so I can order online, which is hard without a name…

First off, who thinks it’s odd to vacation here?? There’s so much to do! That being said, are you talking about the big Farmer’s Market on 3rd and Fairfax? Or the farmer’s market that Santa Monica has every Sunday? Or there’s another one near the Promenade on Thursdays (I think)? Or is there a farmer’s market I have no idea about. It could absolutely be the last one. Actually, I don’t know why I’m going into such detail because I unfortunately do not have a clue who that guy is. LOL. Sorry!
