You need to cheer a friend up who’s just been dumped, or you need to celebrate your brother’s new puppy, whatever reason and no matter how bazar it may seem, you party deserves the best. Don’t let a small space, or even the incorrect use of a big space, keep you and your guest from having an amazing time.
A small or unfinished space can be a big deterrent for people when it comes to hosting parties. No matter how small or imperfect your space seems to be, don’t let that stop you from throwing a fantastic bash! Here are some ideas to help you create space fast to turn your place into a party pad.
Clean up the clutter
First and foremost, take a few minutes to finish those chores that you have been putting off for far too long. Do some spring cleaning and get rid of anything that you do not use regularly. You’ve been sick of that old recliner with the flower pattern that your mother gave you when you graduated from high school for so long but have been too lazy to throw it out? Now is the time to do it.
Also, take an extra second to look for dust in those often neglected, hard-to-reach areas of your home. Although these areas go unnoticed on a regular day, when you have people crammed into your home, the usually unfamiliar spaces become all too obvious.
Enlist the art of Feng Shui
No need to fly in a Chinese Medicine Man, just take a second to realize how much more space you can create by moving around your furniture using Feng Shui. Make a few quick sketched of your space before moving everything around to ensure that you have found the best arrangement.
Secondly, worry less about seating and more about the flow of the room. Each aspect of your party should flow easily together, from cocktail stations to appetizer trays to the dance floor or whatever else you are incorporating. Having less seating for guests also promotes activity and mingling. This will keep you party lively and easy.
Tackle a DIY project
There are a few projects that will take a little elbow grease, but can be easily done on your own before the day of your party to maximize your space. These ideas make take a bit of extra work on your part, but they will become additions that you use every day, and will be happy that you finally did.
Add a spiral staircase to open up space and give easy access to the second floor. Build a small, rolling island for your kitchen to create more counter space and open up the table for other activities. Use an old desk or nightstand that you were going to toss before the party for the base and work it into your style from there. This can save you time and money, and maybe allow you to keep your mom’s old chair after all.
