Remember last week when I showed you the pix from Liz’s baby shower and said I had some tutorials for you? Well I do! And this is the first of them. Balloon fringe!!! It totally fancies up a boring, old balloon. (I’m not really a huge balloon fan to begin with). I found several tutorials online, but some of them were a little shabby chic for my taste. This is the one we decided on.
See how much nicer they are with ROUND balloons instead of balloon-shaped balloons? Ugh. I should probably stop thinking about it. ANYWAY, here’s the tutorial, but…let me tell you a few things we did differently. And by “we,” I pretty much mean my friend Steph who offered herself up as the first ever Hip Soiree minion (I prefer “intern”) and made this task her own. She did all the cutting (aka the worst part).
1 - Steph said she initially started measuring and cutting out perfect one-inch strips, but then quickly realized that made no sense and just eyeballed it. She also ditched the rotary cutter and doubled up the plastic tablecloths (which are sold in an ARRAY of pretty colors at Party City) as much as possible (that just depends on how sharp your scissors are - or your forearm strength maybe?).
2 - Once we had all the strips in hand, we totally glazed over all the criss-cross business. We took 9 strips, folded them in half and then took one strip and tied it around the 9 strips, leaving a loop at the top. In the end, it looks just like her picture.
3 - Also, we just tied the fringe to the balloon string instead of glueing it. I just couldn’t be bothered to get my glue gun out. Again, it ended up looking the same as the picture.
As a heads up - these things aren’t super light, so you can’t tie THAT many on without weighing the balloon down. Obviously, that depends on how big your balloon is. But…you may want to use smaller bunches than we did if you want to have them as long as they are in the picture.
And in case you are all “HEY! SHABBY CHIC IS MY JAAAAAAMMMM!!” then here’s the other tutorial. Don’t say I never gave you anything…
