Liz’s Baby Shower

No. Not the Liz who is currently writing this. A DIFFERENT Liz. This Liz:

Hey Everybody

Isn’t she so adorable?! We think so. Last weekend my friends and I threw her a shower and I figured you’d want to see some highlights. I mean, that’s one of the reasons you come here, right? It’s not just my INSANELY magnificent and beautiful face. I write things about my life and you read them. That’s the arrangement.

ANYWAY, once again, the party was held at a friend’s house which is basically a mid-century modern masterpiece. If it were all in my schlepy apartment, it wouldn’t have looked nearly as nice.

So let’s begin!

My favorite decoration of the day - the photo booth backdrop.

Photo booth fun Photo booth fun 2

Isn’t it pretty?????!!!!! It’s pretty. I’m fully planning on giving you a tutorial since the tutorial we used to make it was straight up wrong. It was some good times, like all photo booths. Ryan was the “Photo Guy” and I made him a shirt declaring that fact. (He volunteered for the job with the full knowledge that he was going to be the only man amongst 40 women. He said he was very excited to be the most handsome, smartest and funniest guy in the room.) We made some props, including speech bubbles. And did you know that they make GIGANTIC sacks as gift wrapping? Apparently, they sell them on Amazon. I was going to link to them, but I couldn’t quickly find any. Plus…DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK, MAN!

We made an advertisement for the booth, complete with a hashtag in case anyone wanted to add their own photos via Instagram or Twitter(?). I don’t know - wherever the kids are posting these days. Foursquare? (I don’t even know what that is).

Signage

I saw this idea and fell in love with the simplicity.

It wouldn’t have worked nearly as well if his name was going to be something like Alexander. The balloons were the one thing that were not what I pictured. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE ROUND!! I specifically bought 36″ round balloons which turned out to be kinda big balloon-shaped balloons. Thanks eBay vendor from China! But we fancied them up with some fringe at the bottom. Again, another tutorial. But…don’t look at the balloons. I’m embarrassed by their hideousness.

The table set-up was very pretty as well (I feel like I’m acting braggy, but I’m just stating the facts).

The food was AMAZING (catered by Thyme Restaurant) and the cake was made by Sweet Lady Jane. I had balloons and skewers to make this cake topper, but….you guys, how do you insert skewers into a blown-up balloon? Are they taped like that???? I should have spent a little time figuring that out beforehand, but you know how it is. People show up early and you don’t want to be running around like a chicken with their head cut off. Oh well. You’ll notice the scroll garland that I posted about last week. I also bought unfinished wooden candle holders and color-matched the paint to the candles I bought. Very pretty, if I do say so myself.

Funny story - even though I literally seatbelted all my serving dishes into my car, BOTH of the tall ones kinda exploded on the 5 mile drive back to our apartment. And no, I was not driving like a maniac. Ryan pointed out that we’ve used them at many parties, so maybe it’s time to make something else anyway. I mean, they’re a little 2000-late. He’s such a “glass half-full” kinda guy.

So…call me if you’re interested in a modernly-stylized (are those words?) party. I think that’s my party-planning niche.
