Tutorial Tuesday - Color Blocked!

It’s summer, you guys! I say that like it’s not summer 12 months out of the year in LA. Pretty much. I’m just trying to relate to my people. The ones who aren’t dumb enough to pay $1M a month in rent just to live in sunshine. ANYWAY, I’ve scoured the earth (internet earth) and found some great summertime tutorials. Okay. Not all of them are directly related to summer, but they look summery. They’re colorful! I think I deserve some credit for that. Like that alone should give this post a C. Or C+.

1. Geometric Wall Art. This reminds me of the accordion rosettes I’ve made in the past. Which means I LOVE IT! But this is, obviously, more permanent. And would look great on my wall. Which wall, I have no idea. But it would look good on some wall in my apartment. Hey, you know what? Maybe I should start moving up to the ceiling! I mean, there is a wealth of space up there. Sometimes my brilliance amazes me.

2. Cocktail popsicles. They had me at cocktail. Well, they had me at the picture and then I was all “COCKTAIL?!?!?!” And then I blacked out. It was like a pinball machine flashing “tilt.” (I’m sure I just lost half of my audience. So like half a million people are now scratching their heads). So…do you think anyone would notice if I started bringing popsicle snacks into work? We have a freezer, so I could logistically do it. But would they start to wonder when I was on my 3rd popsicle of the day? I think I see a social experiment in the future.

3. Homemade water colors. I have absolutely no creative painting skills. I’ve talked about my drawing skills (or lack thereof) in the past. It’s not pretty. So I just ASSume that my painting skills would go hand in hand with the drawing. But that doesn’t stop me from wanting to try. Maybe I’m the next painting gorilla! Or elephant! Or a water color Jackson Pollack (I think we can all agree that those paintings aren’t anything special - it’s squirted paint, guys. A gorilla/elephant could probably master that technique.)! And I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that it would be perfect to do for your little monsters, I mean, kids. They like that kinda stuff right? I don’t know. I’d probably feed them the popsicles.

So, seriously. About those popsicles. They’re work-time doable, right? I mean, I’d be a much more agreeable employee. I think it’s worth a shot.

They drink on Mad Men all the time. At least you would be disguising your alcohol in the form of a delicious treat. Also, just trace things lightly onto watercolor paper and then fill in the lines. That’s what I do! It’s even more “artistic” if you try not to be perfect (aka a little sloppy). Works like a charm.

I’m totally going to use that at my dismissal hearing (is that a thing?). And I really do want to try water colors…

I think they’re called exit interviews.
