Herringbone Table

Oh man. I’ve been meaning to post this since the party. SLACKER! Regardless, this might blow your mind (unless it doesn’t at all). Actually, you’ve seen it in the Sip & See party pictures, so it’s not like it’s a complete surprise. It’s the table Ryan made!

Isn’t it gorgeous?! I saw this tutorial and I was all “Ummm…Ryan…” He immediately (or eventually) put on his tool belt and got to work. Poor guy. I don’t think he had a clue what he was getting into when he said “I do.” Anyway, he started taking pictures as he was making it, but then time got away from him (can someone say procrastinator) and it was a race to the finish line.

For the herringbone wood, he went with fencing. FENCING! I thought it was so brilliant. It was WAY cheaper than the barn wood in the tutorial and was the width he wanted for the “bones.” He sanded them all down and then stained each plank. He decided to stain the wood in different shades of grey to give it that old barn wood feel. As far as the choice of grey over brown…let’s just say that I really wanted it in browns, but by the time I realized he chose grey, it was too late. Oh well. We bought hairpin legs online which I’m in love with. The end product is a little more “rustic” than I would have liked (except the legs), but I really love it. And it goes fantastically with the couch! I’m amazed he was able to make something like this. He’s a keeper!!

And keep your eyes peeled. Both this coffee table and the side table (which we can’t fit in our apartment) are going up for sale! I’ll let you know when it’s live. We want to take extremely careful pix of it so that the buyer can see every nook and cranny. We’re nice like that.
