You guys, hashtags… Ugh. Now, before I say that, I actually love hashtags that are funny. For example, my sister-in-law wrote this hashtag on an Instagram picture of her dancing:
#Attitude #ThatsWhatThePoseIsCalledImNotSayingThatIHaveAnAttitutdeOrLike
HowPeopleJustSayAttitudeForNoReasonAtAllJustToClarifyBecauseThatWouldBe
ReallyStupidPants
HA! I capitalized the first letter of each word so that you could read it easily(ish). So, I’m not really talking about funny hashtags or ones that direct you to something somewhat “tangible.” I mean, I link my cat pictures to #catsofinstagram occassionally. My other sister-in-law tagged a picture of Ryan’s family with #LewisKids and when you clicked on it, IT WAS ANOTHER FAMILY OF THREE KIDS NAMED LEWIS! But they all looked nice and normal. KIDDING! But what I don’t like is hastags like this: #happy #joy #water #sun #sunny #earth #land #people #fun #greatday #play #superhappy #supersuperhappy all under one post/photo. If they were sarcastic, it would be funny. But it’s not funny. And it’s every. single. picture. Now, I’m sure these people are very nice and may not deserve my “wrath,” but REALLY?! Does someone click on #sun to see what other people have tagged as being sun? And then do the click on #sunny to see if it’s different from what people would consider sun? Really?! No, right? Maybe I’m just a grandma and everyone’s like “Duh. I click on every hashtag that I come across. Grandma.” If so, then I think I need to get off this crazy train we call social media because I’m just becoming more and more like these guys. Oh, and thanks for deciding to add them to Facebook, Mark SUCKerberg.

I never click hashtags. It took me what seemed like forever to even figure out what the point of them was…and it’s probably debatable if I fully get it. But I definitely know what you mean about people hash tagging every word. As they say “ain’t nobody got time for that!” Are these people just maximizing their chances that no matter what word someone is looking for, it will link to their post? And is that totally egotistical, if they are? You should do a blog about memes, another social media thing I have a hard time with. Remember when people just had pen pals?
I think it is that. They want more likes or thumbs up or retweets or whatever the kids are doing nowadays. Yeah, memes also bug me. Especially when they junk up my Facebook feed. I get that they’re funny, but 10 of them in a row? Good grief.
Pen pals! I remember being “assigned” one in grade school. I wonder if they do that anymore.
