Anniversary Party (Part 2)

Here’s a continuation of the anniversary festivities this past weekend. You can read the first “installment” here (it’s a good one).

Today I’ll show you a couple of other projects I did for the party. Remember those Dollar Tree glasses I told you about? Those things were the bomb (says someone like Salt-n-Pepa)! Pretty and STURDY. I was afraid they were going to be paper-thin, but they weren’t at all. What they were was a little plain (to me), so I decided to snazz them up:

It was hard to get a good picture, but I etched each glass with a few Eames-esque graphics. It was time-consuming (there were 60 glasses in total), but totally worth it to me. Having the Silhouette made it way easier, but I wouldn’t say easy. I was happy to have an assembly line team. I only had to print the decals and put them on the glasses. Other team members glopped on the etching cream (I used the Martha Stewart brand one) and rinsed them off. I’m sure not many people noticed the graphics, but I did. Aren’t they so pretty???

Next up. More tablecloths. Well, one tablecloth. We had one big table in the back that needed to be covered. Because I didn’t want to make more paper peonies (talk about a task), I decided to embroider something large that would be considered the centerpiece. I saw this and thought it was perfect. Of course, it was going to be dark, so no one would probably notice it. Unless I used glow-in-the-dark embroidery floss WHICH EXISTS!!! Ryan was a bit of a naysayer about it because he wasn’t sure how long it would hold its “glow.” Party pooper. I figured that since it was white, it was still a good design even if it didn’t really glow.

Tablecloth

It’s not THAT glowy, but I hope it was a little glowy. At least a little.

Finally. The marquee sign. WE FINALLY MADE ONE! Sadly, Ryan and I decided to make it as a gift for the anniversary couple. An idea I immediately regretted when I saw how well it turned out. Booooooo.

And here it is lit up.

Seeing these pictures makes me regret that decision even more. YOU’RE WELCOME STEPHANIE AND JUSTIN!!! Blerg. ANYWAY, it was really a joint effort by Carl and Ryan. Carl is a woodworker, so he had the tools readily available to make the arrow template and drill the holes for the lights. Ryan painted the arrow and put on the aluminum flashing using this tutorial. I’ll never get either of them to perform this task again. Just for me, that is. Thumbs down and teary face.

I’ll finish it up tomorrow, but in the meantime I want to show you my sad attempt at photo bombing.

Photo bomb

That’s my other sister-in-law Tate and her boyfriend. Adorbz. But my photo bombing technique is terrible. Ryan…he’s the real photo bomber of the family.

Ryan bomb

Love it! Creepy and adorable at the same time. Side note - isn’t Breanne hideous? Enraging…

There’s more tomorrow…

That arrow looks amazing! It looks better than the inspiration, so the’s that. I want to make some sort of marque letter project but I don’t know what I want it to say yet. Oh, and I think I would make those tiny ones that say BONJOUR that I saw on Pinterest. They’re just so adorable nestled in her arms like a little baby.

Subject change. I am en excellent photo bomber and my #1 suggestion for you is to be sneaky. You don’t want your victims to realize you bombed their photo until someone points it out to them on Facebook after they’ve uploaded it. That is the absolute best photo bomb pay off. I know you can do better!

Isn’t it amazing?? I swear, it looks better than most of the ones I’ve seen for sale places. I really want more marquee signs. I can’t get enough of them. Our apartment is going to eventually look like the Neon Boneyard in Vegas.

I totally realized the great photo bombing technique that Ryan displayed in his picture. Dang it! I will do better next time…
