This weekend was pretty eventful, so I didn’t get as much done as I wanted. I went to an AWESOME craft show, though. It wasn’t really a craft show as it didn’t have much “craftiness.” It was more clothes and jewelry. It’s called Unique LA. If you’re in the area, definitely check it out the next time there’s a show.
ANYWAY, I did get a few projects done. The first one - a new sewing basket. Actually, let me start by asking if you know what a sewing basket is. Do you? Maybe not. Or maybe you’re all “Don’t talk down to me Lizzie. Of course I know what a sewing basket is. You’re not the only person in the world who has ever sewn something. You act like you’re so special. Geez.” Well, if that’s the case, then I’m sorry. Double geez. If you DON’T know, a sewing basket is something that you can use to easily store away all your pins and needles and thread and, blah, blah, blah. I bought one at Jo-Ann Fabric a while ago. I really liked it. It looks like this:
Mine doesn’t have this busy fabric covering it (mine is MUCH cuter), but it’s the same basket otherwise. It was great. It has a tray on top and it stores a lot of things. But then I started getting more sewing/quilting things. And more. And more (I know…). I couldn’t fit everything in there anymore. And not just because there was so much, but some of the things were too big. So every time I wanted to get a needle, I had to unpile all the stuff on top of the box just to open it. That sounds like a big hunk of first world problems. I realize that.
Then, during one of my online searching frenzies for all things vintage, I had an epiphany - a train case. You know those things? They’re the little rectangular boxes where fancy ladies would store all their cosmetics, etc. when they travelled. Something like that would make the BEST sewing box. It’s small(ish), they usually have a little tray on top like a sewing basket does, and…it would be adorable. That was the biggest factor, I’ll admit it. I commenced my search and decided that I really wanted an orange one. There weren’t many. They were so cute, but they were expensive. Probably because they were so cute. Supply and demand (sigh)… So I decided to widen out my search. I thought - yellow or green. Nope. The ones that weren’t all stained and gross were expensive. I let it go. It was a cute idea, but I wasn’t going to pay a ton of money for a cute idea. This time. I was going to stay strong and maybe one day I’d stumble upon one in a thrift store. It would be perfect and they’d charge me $1 because they were dumb and didn’t realize they were selling vintage gold (in my eyes). So the next day I was searching again (I know…) and, get this, a new one had JUST been listed. It was red which wasn’t high on my list (or on it at all), but it was in very good condition and…$10! TEN DOLLARS!!!! Done.
It came in the mail on Saturday. It has a few scuffs on it, but the inside fabric and tray are perfect. It looks like it has never been used. Ever. I got most of the scuffs off (I’m telling you guys, MAGIC ERASER!), but there are a few spots that are actually worn paint. All in all, it was a great purchase. I decided to snazz it up a bit and line it with fabric.
IT’S PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And all my stuff fits inside! Including my sewing shears! GAH! The only bad thing:
Ted’s obsessed with it. I walked away to get a paper towel and this is what I found. I had to fight him off with one hand while trying to snazz it up. Oh Ted… Why are you so crazy about all things sewing???
