The Roaring 20′s

You guys, I’m going to a Great Gatsby party!!! How fun does that sound? Super fun, that’s how much fun. Of course, I was like “YAYYYYY!” and then I was like “Crap. What am I going to wear???!!” Not only that, but what is RYAN going to wear? So off I went on a coffee break with my friend, Constance Google. She’s in the know about EVERYTHING. She’s nothing short of amazing. I found this and having already begun the process:

The pattern has been made and the fabric has been cut. Joann’s had very little by way of fringe. Well, not what I wanted. I look terrible in gold. Alabaster (read: the color of Powder from the hit movie “Powder” - I’ve told you guys that before) and gold aren’t a good combo in my book. Silver, maybe. But I’m thinking outside the box color-wise and ended up ordering it online. It should (BETTER!) be coming today or tomorrow.

Now Ryan. He has a few suits which is pretty much all you need for the look. The one that would look the best was missing something - a vest. He needed to look a little more polished like the men back then appeared to look. So I decided to make him one. This one, to be exact:

I let him pick out the embellishments/patches. AAAHAHAHAHAA! SIKE! There aren’t any! He did pick out the fabric and buttons. Now, as you can see it’s a “Learn to Sew” pattern which I thought would be perfect. I’ll start by saying this - I’m apparently below the “learn to sew” level. Let me tell you, there was a LOT of YouTube instructional video watching going on. I ended up making two vests. Why? Because the first one was too tight. I tried to let it out as much as I could, but I (obviously) have no idea how to properly do that. Even though it took me HOURS AND HOURS to make, it didn’t fit. Good times. I gave up the whole altering thing and I just decided to make him another one in the next bigger size. Of course, that meant another pattern and more fabric. All in all, it turned out pretty well. Not worth the $30 we ended up paying for it (remember - double the pattern and fabric). BUT I’m chalking it up to paying for the experience. At least I now know how easy it is to line something. And I finally made buttonholes which is pretty much the coolest thing ever. I actually called Ryan into the room to see how it’s done (automatically by the sewing machine). Oh, and he ended up liking the vest so much that we bought some fabric to make a casual vest for him to wear. And no. No embellishments will be purchased. Who would want that razzamatazz on their clothes?! Good grief.

I also tried to get Ryan to wear this hat to the party. He said he’d be up for it, but he’d have to try it on first to make sure he didn’t look like an idiot in it. But…THOSE THINGS ARE EXPENSIVE!

I’ve linked to it here so that you can both see the price and/or buy it for yourself. Or Ryan. It’s up to you.

I’ll show you guys some pictures of us at the party. Unless my dress looks like booty. Then you’ll never hear about it again.

Oh, and I apparently did such a great job with the vest that Ryan’s asked me to make him pants now. All aboard for Crazytown!
