Remember how I posted last week about getting a new iPad and how I needed to make a sleeve for it? Well, TA-DA!
While there were some mistakes along the way, I’m VERY proud of it. I’ve been telling everyone that the reason the velcro flap fastens on the inside is because it would have covered over the hexagons if it were on the outside. Duh. While that is very much a fact, the real reason is because I attached the stupid thing incorrectly. Well, in my defense, the tutorial didn’t have a designated front and back, so I wasn’t 100% sure which way it should have gone. Oh, and I went with this one because…Ryan chose it. He didn’t want a zipper because he was afraid it would somehow scratch the iPad. Even he admitted that was slightly ridiculous, but nonetheless he asked for it to be sans zipper. I mean, how can you watch YouTube clips (that’s seriously all Ryan does on it) with a huge scratch down the middle? I mean, how would you be able to see Gangnam Style Mom in action? (Side note - I’ve never really craved having a Korean mom before, but I totally do after seeing this video.)
ANYWAY, the tutorial today is REALLY for the hexagon applique and not the sleeve (since I already posted those last week). As I’ve said before, applique makes me nervous. I’m not the best zig-zag stitcher. But in my quest for some jazzification of the iPad sleeve, I found this tutorial which shows an awesome and way easier (for me) way to make them. With this idea, you don’t have to worry about zig-zagging to cover up the raw edges. It’s fantabulous! I’ll admit that I adhered the fusible webbing to the wrong side of the fabric more than once, but in the end it worked out well. So well that I’m going to use this technique to fancy up some tablecloths. Sweet business!

Beautiful job on the case! Also, I think I need an iPad so I can watch Gangnam Mom while I drive.
I must ask: is that the leftover felt from the felt flower bowl? Or is the case not even felt at all? (Felt would probably be deemed ‘too linty’ by someone who shuns zippers.)
Wow. Using felt would have a been a FABULOUS idea (that I would have never thought of), but the felt from that bowl made my heart hurt, so I just tossed it. But the bag is actually made out of suiting material that I quilted to the batting. The thread matched so perfectly that you can’t even tell it’s quilted. That sounds like I’m bragging about my thread choice, but I’m just more amazed that I didn’t screw it up.
Oh, and the iPad…it’s awesome. And it’s apparently perfect for watching YouTube all day.
