Tutorial Tuesday - Black-Out Curtains

I don’t know if I’ve harped on this enough, but we have a VERY small apartment. Like 100 square feet. Kidding. I’m very bad guessing square footage, so I’ll just guess low. ANYWAY, having a small place means that whenever someone comes and stays overnight, they have to sleep in the living room. And whoever sleeps in the living room has to deal with, what can only be referred to as, the BLINDING spot/flood lights that are directly outside the window on the apartment walkway. Don’t get me wrong, when I’m fumbling around in the dark with my keys (with the scenes from the most recent Investigation Discovery episode featuring a girl being raped a murdered because she was taking so long fumbling with her keys playing in my head), I’m very happy they’re there. But when I close the curtains when we’re all about to hit the hay, I truly feel sorry for these people. I would have a very hard time sleeping like that. Even with canvas curtains, it’s pretty bright in there. Ironic as it’s so blasted dark all during the day. I swear, life is a perpetual kick in the balls. SO, I could do one of two things. I could keep a supply of sleep masks on hand at all times OR I could finally make the black-out blinds I’ve been dreaming (not really) about. I choose the latter.

I stumbled across this super easy tutorial over at Make It and Love It which I’m totally going to try. And first off, I’d like to say that I love this fabric so much that I almost feel the need to work out my jealous anger by a heavy dose of punch-dancing. Anyway, here are the curtains open:

Whatever, beautiful fabric. We get it, you’re pretty. Stop being such a show-off.

Here’s an image showing the difference between the two:

And here’s a picture of the finished product:

Amazing. I love it. So, sorry folks. You won’t be getting a complimentary sleep mask the next time you come over. You already receive the gift known as my sparkling personality anyway. Winky face…

So check this out: that beautiful fabric you are lusting over? Those are store-bought curtains from Ikea (we are considering those very curtains for our green dining room.) Stop punch-dancing and go buy them! Have a cinnamon roll while you’re there, even though I swear they used to be better than they are now!

Son of a bee sting! Are you joking me????? See, I don’t live as close to Ikea as I’d like (right next door would be preferable) so I miss out on things LIKE THOSE CURTAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’d be very jealous of you if you bought them. But then I’d go out and buy them and we be equally awesome, I guess. Oh, and one of the ways I ply Ryan into going is reminding him of the whole $1 hot dog dealio. 60% of the time, it works every time. ;) It’s actually 100%.

I kid you not! They are called MALIN FIGUR. Yeah, we are nearly 3 hours away from our “local” branch, but it’s near the in laws so we get to go there frequently enough. I would say that plying husbands with low-priced snacks is so effective it’s almost not fair, but then what does that say about my $1 cinnamon roll obsession?

Lizzie’s got a bad case of “Malin Figur.” Oh, Ikea… I didn’t admit that I ALWAYS get a $1 frozen yogurt. Always.
