Tutorial Tuesday - Hand Quilting!

OK. I know this isn’t a tutorial that everyone wants to do. But I do. And I am going to do it. So…I guess I don’t care about you guys? No, that’s not true. I swear that I do.

I think I told you a little while ago about the quilt I’m making. It’ll look like this. Well, let’s be honest. It “should” look like this, but it’ll probably look like a Picasso-esque version of it:

I LOVE IT! (Side note - if you’re interested in giving it a go yourself, here’s the link to the blog). I’m making it in purples and greys and am about halfway done with the top. I got a little side-tracked with all the art party stuff, so I put it on the back burner. BUT NOT ANYMORE! And, I’ve decided to hand quilt it! “What?! You’re crazy!” you cry. Probably. But I don’t want to do the “difficult” and “old-fashioned” way that would take me F-O-R-E-V-E-R to do. I want to use embroidery floss to give it a look like this:

Super cute, right? It’ll definitely take me longer than machine quilting, but I think it’ll be worth it in the end. I’m also going to go with my initial idea of making it big enough for our queen-sized bed. I was a little afraid to attempt that on the machine because it was hard enough for me to do a crib-sized quilt there. I know it can be done, but…I’m scared.

So, here’s a really good tutorial (I think so, at least) that I found online. I’ve already purchased the needed supplies and stuff. I’ll let you know how it turns out! Don’t hold your breath, though. I have a sick feeling it won’t be done until 2013. If I could just quit my job…
