I really don’t know where to begin about The Great Gatsby party. We had an absolute blast. First off, the dressing up part was SO fun! Of course, I am very lucky to have a sister-in-law who is a hairstylist and was able to make my hair look downright awesome. You guys, I had perfect finger waves and a faux bob. A FAUX BOB!!!! We decided that dressing in that style is amazing. There were lots of comments like “WE SHOULD DO THIS ALL THE TIME!!!!” And then we realized that it took forever and we were like “Yeah, no.”
Anyway, let me remind you about my ensemble. It consisted of the hair piece, dress and purse shown below. And check this out – I made them ALL! The purse too! Right?! I was pretty impressed with myself. Obviously, as I am singing my own praises.
I’m showing you all of this because I don’t really have any pictures of my dress straight on while I’m wearing it. I know, I know. My phone died about 5 minutes into the night and then I got so caught up in the splendor that I totally forgot about documenting it. I mean, there are pictures, but nothing where you see me shaking my fringe or anything. I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to deal with. But don’t worry. I’ve still got pictures.
Isn’t my sister-in-law ADORABLE?! She looked like she came out of the pages of [insert name of 1920's fashion magazine]. Honestly, it was a little irritating. But she did my hair PERFECTLY (sorry for the picture blurriness). She even drew a beauty mark on my face (side note – why is it a beauty mark when it’s on someone like Marilyn Monroe, yet a mole when it’s on a scary witch? I blame Cosmo.). And Ryan’s hat was perfect. The downside – I was worried at one point that he was going to pass out from the heat. A wool suit and hat aren’t really optimal party wear. Especially while dancing. Poor guy. At least my brother-in-law had the good sense to dress like a golfer. Although he was wearing a sweater vest, so I’m sure it also felt pretty sweaty. Oh, and if you’re wondering, the answer is yes. A boa IS very itchy and it doesn’t really breathe well.
The party in general was a lot of fun. I wish it were a week-long festival because there was so much going on and I didn’t get as much time as I would have liked to visit each room. They had a big band in one room and then another room with a DJ playing things like Michael Jackson and Prince. They also had a band playing outside that was awesome. The guitar player looked so much like Elvis Costello that it took me a while to definitively decide that it wasn’t. AND they had photo booths right when you walked in the door. Well, not booths. More like sets that looked like rooms. RIGHT?!!!! So cool!!! I mean, check this out:
How awesome is that?! Ummmmm…VERY awesome. Vawesome
OH! And another highlight of the evening was the fact that I met two of my “followers.” They were VERY excited to meet me. I pretty much felt like a rock star. For reals. Is this where it all starts, you guys? Will there be paparazzi camped outside the Queen Anne soon? Will I need security 24/7? Will I soon be doing rails off Ralph’s ass (although that would prove to be very difficult as it is hairy and…GROSS!!!!)? I’m getting ahead of myself a bit. Just a little bit…
