Tutorial Tuesday – Paper Piecing!

I know…it’s a little specific again.   Not a general crafty type of thing.  But…I’m a bit obsessed.  Again.  You know what I’m going to do first?  Just for fun?  I’m going to show you the finished product and THEN show you where you can learn more about it.  (Wait.  Is that how I always do it?)  Because it’s scrumtrelescent (it’s at the 3:03 mark).

SO.  This weekend, I pulled this off:

Cute, right?!  I’ve been dying to use that typewriter fabric by Melody Miller.  DYING.  I thought that showcasing it a bit would be the cutest.  AND I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to try paper piecing.  I mean, a polaroid picture frame!  GAH!  Oh, and what do you think of the fabric on the back?  You don’t need to really answer because I know it’s awesome.  It’s washi tape!!!  Well, the washi tape is printed on the fabric.  I didn’t just stick tons of pieces of washi tape all over the place.

Here’s a close-up of each of the polaroids:

Uhhhh…I’m pretty ding dang impressed with myself.  Well, in full disclosure, it’s not that hard.  I mean, I drew a insanely simple design which made it really easy.  That’s the best part about it.  You can draw your own design OR you can use one of the really cute patterns I’ve found out there.  Like here, here and here.  And FINALLY, here’s a FANTASTIC set of tutorials that show you how to paper piece generally.  I’m going to make a cute little quilt top with paper pieced designs on it.  Right after I finish the quilt I’m working on now.  So, in five years…

I swear. If I ever see Will Ferrell in person, I don’t know what I would do. It would be weird to run up and say how much I love him and that I think we could be besties (which I think we could be). I’d probably just freeze up and stroke out.
